Bleeding Like Mine (U.S.A.)
"In the Eyes of Lovelost" CD 1997, Palace of Worms
13.00EUR • approx. 18.8USD [ temp. out of stock ] : [ pre-order ]
A brilliant Darkwave album, for fans of Black Tape for a Blue Girl, Dead Can Dance or Love Spirals Downwards.

It seems that Palace of Worms have managed to find a few extra copies of this excellent release for us, so we're now able to offer you Bleeding Like Mine's fine debut "In the Eyes of Lovelost". The project revolves around Curt Emmer, hereby assisted by a few other musicians and performers throughtout the album in somewhat random manner. Curt has based his approach on ethereal string melodies, seductive percussion/beats, heavenly male/female vocals and keyboard/piano melodies that drift in and out of the music in rather ominous fashion. This combination comes to result in a quite peculiar form of ambiance, which will certainly appeal to those who fancy the likes of Black Tape for a Blue Girl. Although wrapped in an ethereal cloak, Bleeding Like Mine's music can also be deeply reflective and isolationist, even if somewhat romantic and sensual. There is a thick mysterious aura present on the album, which although not dark enough to dispell the work's soothing effects, is nonetheless intriguing enough to offer more than mere background listening. The songs' monotonous structures make them sound like a moment frozen in time, a blurred picture of strange beauty that holds mournful chants trapped inside it.. A blissful and moving, yet somber, piece of work! Essential.

Bleeding Like Mine (U.S.A.)
"Never Again Will I Dream" CD 2001, Palace of Worms
13.00EUR • approx. 18.8USD [ temp. out of stock ] : [ pre-order ]
The long awaited new album from Bleeding Like Mine brings a more introspective side to their music. Recordings feature Hugues Dammarie, of O Quam Tristis, on male vocals, as a counterpart to the heavenly vocals of Holy Emmer. Beautiful.

With Bleeding Like Mine's long awaited follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut and Palace of Worms' bestseller, Curt extends the stylistic platform which BLM has become known for. Similarities to the freshman release abound, yet this release goes beyond the former, with bolder percussion and rhythm developments, as well as subtler, more emotional statements that attack the heart both lyrically and musically. The addition of the dynamic and deep vocals of Hugues Dammarie (of Palace of Worms signed O Quam Tristis) combined with the ever surreal, multi-track heavently vocals of Holly Emmer clearly take this release to the next level. A rare, beautiful work which combines three equal parts to create a magical whole.

Audio samples will be available soon. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Lvna In Caelo (Chile)
"Aqvellos Desgarradores Gritos Llamados Silencio" CD 2001, Palace of Worms
13.00EUR • approx. 18.8USD [ add to cart ]
The latest offer from Palace of Worms come from no less than Chile! Parallels between Cocteau Twins or The Gathering are hard to avoid, but Lvna In Caelo add a darker and more obscure touch to their music. Inc. video tracks.

Lvna in Caelo is a band from Santiago de Chile, which started in 1993 as a guitar & voice project by Daniel Dávila and Alejandra Araya. Lvna in Caelo means 'the moon at the sky' in latin. After adding drums and bass, and playing live, Lvna in Caelo released it's first CD in 1998. In 1999 the founding members moved to Mexico City, their second CD "Miedo a Morir", was released in 2000. The basic idea of Lvna in Caelo's sound is to create atmospheres and feelings related to the human soul, dreams and nightmares. The lyrics talk about the fact of the material condition of the human being and how scary is to know that we are just flesh and bones, how scary it is to die. Working with basic rock instruments, Lvna in Caelo builds music landscapes, based on reverberated guitars and voices, solid bass lines and almost tribal drum patterns. It could be a mix between the Cocteau Twins, early Cure, Popol Vuh and My Bloody Valentine. Laid on the crest of the music, is the astounding vocals. Alejandra's voice is one of the most elegant you can heard; harkening the transcendental lilt of Lisa Gerrard and the sweet gaity and cadence of Elizabeth Fraser. This madrigalic heavently voice takes on an almost religious identity.

O Quam Tristis (France)
"Funérailles des Petits Enfants" CD 2000, Palace of Worms
13.00EUR • approx. 18.8USD [ temp. out of stock ] : [ pre-order ]
Gregorian Choirs crossed with skillful Electronics and Medieval compositions...

O Quam Tristiis… is a new French band whose debut, "Funérailles des Petits Enfants", provides an eclectic mix between choral chants of deeply religious/ecclesiastical content and ethnic/medieval music with an electronic edge that sets the project in a contemporary setting. Things occasionally drift into Gothic Rock territory with the use of discreet guitars and rather dancy beats, but the heavenly vocals of Katrina and Anna, assisted by moody flutes and acoustic guitars, prevent the magic aura from dispelling. Traces of Dead Can Dance pop to mind, as well as Enigma (if they had never met Techno/Dance music…), Rosa Crvx, Opera Multi Steel, Rajna, Bel Canto or Les Sécrets de Morphée and as if that wasn't enough, it seems that the Latin texts used as lyrics here have been taken from the Gregorian Manual! Confused? You should be… This is quite unlike anything I had ever heard before, and I'm quite sure that will surprise most of you as well. A very original, diverse and refreshing release!

Darkwave/Electro.

Runes Order's fourth full-length release is an extended nocturnal voyage into a cold, windswept land, where the darkness is held at bay only by the light of musical beauty. The 14 songs on "Waiting Forever (Memories Remain)" combine powerful percussions - that balance on the knife's edge between march drums and ritualistic dance beats with sweeping synth melodies of an often strongly melancholy character. Aside from a couple of instrumental pieces, the songs are all adorned with vocals that nicely complement the moods set by the musical arrangements. Dreamy, surreal, moody and dancy Euro-Darkwave with echoing male and female vocals. Techno-Trance influenced on some songs, electronics similar to certain Cold Meat Industry releases on others. "The Power of a New Aeon" is, indisputably, one of the most interesting compilation projects ever to emerge ever to emerge on the Darkwave scene. All the artists herein included have created a track to represent one of the 22 trumps of the Major Arcana especially for this double-CD endeavour, which means that you won't find most of the tracks anywhere else. The Soil Bleeds Black, Arcana, Autumn Tears or Chants for the Fallen (a discreet yet promising Portuguese project and the only Portuguese contribution to this disc) form the Neoclassical/Medieval-inspired part of the compilation, whereas Bleeding Like Mine, Stay Frightened, In Winter Bleeding or Vehemence Realized, curiously all of which representatives of Palace of Worms, add a more ethereal Darkwave flavour to things. Brooding orchestrals and dark electronics are offered by Ah Cama-Sotz and Dream Into Dust, and the likes of 4th Sign of the Apocalypse, Loretta's Doll and Athanor provide strange incursions into esoteric Ambient territory, whereas on the other hand, Conscientia Peccati, alongside Ontario Blue, Arcanta, Endvra, Nothvs Filivs Mortis, Psychonaut or Pilori lend a somewhat ritualistic aura to the compilation, which, as you can imagine, can be a quite varied and captivating collection of artists. Highly recommended!

Vehemence Realized (U.S.A.)
"Severe" CD 1999, Palace of Worms
13.00EUR • approx. 18.8USD [ add to cart ]
Darkwave/Goth Rock. Somewhere between Death In June and Joy Division.

Palace of Worms seem to be able to pick bands with a similar essence that have helped the label to find its very own niche in the scene. "Severe", the debut album for Vehemence Realized, comes as another fine addition to this Italian label's catalogue. The band have created an atmosphere that somehow manages to combine elements of Joy Division (like the throaty dramatic vocals and the discomforting and nostalgically poetic mood of the music) and Death In June, achieving as you might imagine quite unique results. The use of a live trumpet here will certainly bring to mind the Norwegian Beyond Dawn to any fan of the band and traces of Black Tape for a Blue Girl will eventually also seep into your mind when playing this. The album possesses a very sad and desolate ambience, but it feels more like a conformed sort of feeling than a desperate and angry one. A fine addition to any fan of Darkwave/Gothic music seeking to find beauty in sadness.
